At All Saints Church of England School, our KS2 Modern Foreign Languages curriculum builds on pupils’ understanding that language is a key part of identity and cultural heritage, helping them appreciate different cultures and broaden their social and cultural awareness. In line with the National Curriculum for KS2, our Spanish curriculum is designed to inspire, engage and challenge pupils while developing their confidence, fluency and enjoyment of language learning. We celebrate the diverse languages spoken within our community and teach Spanish as our chosen MFL, enabling pupils to understand where it is spoken, recognise its phonetic structure through a phonics‑first approach, and communicate with increasing accuracy, spontaneity and fluency. Through reading, writing and speaking activities, pupils learn key grammatical structures and explore the rich cultural traditions, celebrations and achievements of Spanish‑speaking countries across areas such as sport, the arts and history. By the end of KS2, pupils are well‑prepared for KS3 language learning and equipped with transferable skills that support the study of additional modern foreign languages.
