RE
In Church of England schools, where pupils and staff come from a variety of faiths and none, Religious Education (RE) is a highly valued academic subject. It enables pupils to understand how religion and belief shape the lives of individuals and communities. At the heart of RE in church schools is the teaching of Christianity, while pupils also learn about other major religions and world views.
At All Saints C of E Primary School, Religious Education is taught using the NATRE Scheme of Work, which incorporates the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus alongside the Understanding Christianity materials. In line with national guidance, 50% of all RE teaching focuses on Christianity, with lessons primarily following the Understanding Christianity scheme. The remaining 50% covers other faiths and world views, including Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism, as well as perspectives held by those who do not follow a particular religion.
All pupils receive weekly RE lessons. In EYFS, children explore religious themes through continuous provision activities, storytelling, and learning about themselves in relation to the wider world. This foundation supports their transition into Key Stage One with a secure understanding of community and the diversity of beliefs. As pupils progress through KS1 and KS2, the curriculum offers increasing depth, allowing them to build knowledge, develop skills, and engage more thoughtfully with different faiths.
We build strong links with our local church, welcome visitors into school, and make use of a wide range of high‑quality resources to enrich learning. These opportunities help children make connections, revisit prior learning, and deepen their understanding of different beliefs, cultures and communities. We are proud of our RE curriculum and the way it encourages pupils to think deeply, reflectively and with curiosity about the world around them.
This approach extends into our Footsteps provision, where RE is delivered through Understanding the World sessions, celebration days, and daily Candle Time sessions.
