The Ark is an extension of the children's classroom.

In the nurture base, our aim is every child to enjoy coming to school, learn how to self-regulate, manage their individual behaviour and receive excellent teaching / guidance. We aim to provide an alternative curriculum within The Ark, which caters for SEMH needs ( Social, Emotional and Mental Health ) and also support with developing crucial life skills.

The staff at All Saints work as a flexible team in order to best meet the changing needs of all the children who attend our school. This means your child may be supported by any member of the pastoral team, in addition to their class teacher, class teaching assistant and 1:1 support. With this pastoral support, the children will benefit from a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise from across the whole team.

 

Interventions in The Ark

In The Ark Nurture Base, the children will take part in a number of interventions to help develop their social, emotional and independence skills, as well as getting support with literacy and numeracy. The interventions they will be a part of are:

• Social Communication
• Emotional Literacy
• Behaviour Strategies
• Life Skills

Social Communication

Based on reports from other professionals, the children will be given the tools and skills to help your child with social communication. In The Ark Nurture Base, we will spend time learning how we engage in conversation, and we will help them to make sense of situations that may be confusing.

Emotional Literacy

The children will learn about emotions and how to regulate them through the use of Emotion Coaching. All staff members at All Saints, uses Emotion Coaching to help them understand how and why we feel certain ways during the day. We will give them the opportunity to make sense of things and see every emotional moment as a learning opportunity.

Behaviour Strategies

The children will be supported to understand and regulate their behaviour through nurture based supportive strategies to help them to communicate their feelings, whilst keeping themselves and others safe. This will include, learning how to identify and safely communicate feelings of anger, sadness and frustration.

Life Skills

A variety of activities and sessions, developed collaboratively as a team and with pupil and family input will help to deliver fun learning of essential life skills.

 

Lunchtime in The Ark

Lunchtime is from 12:00 – 1:00pm. The children who access The Ark, are welcome to sit with staff in The Ark to eat their lunch. Staff will promote good eating habits, good table manners and a happy environment to be a part off. Once the children have finished eating their lunch, they either have the opportunity to go outside onto the playground.

• We will celebrate ours and others achievements

Being part of The Ark Nurture Base, means the children will benefit from a close-knit, pastoral environment of which All Saints are very proud.
